Tully Valley communities don’t oppose renewables, just really tall windmills (Your Letters)

To the Editor:
In response to Larry Popielinski’s Oct. 13, 2024, letter regarding the proposed Tully Valley wind farm (“Wind power helps to wean us of fossil fuels”), the towns of Tully, Otisco and LaFayette actively support renewable energy projects. However, with regard to Palmer Capital’s current proposal, the following important information should be considered:
In summary, our local governments have already approved numerous renewable energy projects. However, industrial-scale projects as proposed by Palmer are not appropriate in rural residential areas. Unfortunately, New York’s new Office of Renewable Energy Siting will decide if this new project moves forward. Any decision regarding Palmer Capital’s proposed project should be made by local governments representing the residents that would be affected. Projects of this size should not be decided by a new political office in Albany and we need the help of our elected state representatives to address this issue.
